Aliso Upset in Quarter-Finals
September 7th, 2018
The #1 Seeded Aliso Niguel Varsity Boys were upset in the quarter finals of the Weisz Cup by the Santa Monica Vikings losing 7-13.  The Wolverines were their own worse enemy as their inability to convert on numerous 6 on 5 opportunities and poor passing, including passes directly to the opposing team.  Even with that Aliso was still able to keep the game close, at the end of the 1st quarter Aliso was down 2-4.  With under 2 minutes left in the 2nd quarter Aliso was able to cut the lead down to 1 goal, 5-6, and it looked like the Wolverines could build on the momentum.  That was short lived as the Vikings answered quickly with a goal of their own, going into halftime the Wolverines were still down 2 goals 5-7.   The second half it was all Santa Monica as the Vikings capitalized on the numerous exclusions called on Aliso and the Wolverines ball handling woes continued, which included a pass that went completely out of bounds.  Aliso could only muster up 2 goals the entire second half as they go on to lose 7-13.  Jack Moorehead led all scorers with 4 goals, Matty Kuljam, Owen Furlong and Kyle Knight had a goal each. Kobe Escobar and Furlong led with 2 steals each. Knight led with 2 assist.
